The key to interpreting Christmas is not how the shepherds were guided and how the Magi came to Bethlehem; it was the baby they came to seek and worship together. God came to earth through Jesus, a man of flesh and blood, "to come among us" (John 1:14). Christmas is about Jesus!
Today's New Testament verses can help us gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of Jesus' birth. The Bible reminds us that "the baby Jesus" is "Lord of lords and King of kings" (Revelation 17:14, second paragraph). The Bible shows us the battle between good and evil in the spiritual world: a large group of evil forces united with the human government to resist God; the Bible reminds us that in the end, the Lamb defeated all evil with his humility and sacrifice.
Jesus left the glory of heaven and became the humblest man. As in a Christmas carol: Listen! Angels are singing:
Christ, the Highest King
Christ, the Eternal Lord
Wonderful, born of a virgin,
Humble, become human
Holy, God is in the world,
Gan Wei, friend of sinners
Salvation comes from heaven.
His name is Emmanuel.
Listen, the angels are singing,
Glory to the new king!
